Offshore Banking

Most people conduct their everyday financial matters through the services of a local bank and never even think about the advantages of offshore banking. Many think that banking offshore is only for more profitable people who have money lying around and need somewhere to put it. The reality is that offshore banking is available to anyone that would like to use it – not to a privileged few.

What exactly is offshore banking? It is when you choose to keep all or a portion of your monies with a bank that is not really based in the same country as you are. There are many reasons why people do this. Banking offshore can be very advantageous and because of the accessibility of modern banking through various mediums like ATM’s or online banking, the appeal of offshore banking is growing in leaps and bounds.

For one thing, many people may choose a foreign bank because it has a reputation. For example, the Swiss bank has a reputation for privacy, secrecy and safety and it is very prestigious. People with very valuable assets or people who do not wish to have anyone access their financial information will generally bank with this sort of bank.

Another reason people may choose offshore banking is because a currency in another country is stronger than theirs. Thus, they can convert their money into a foreign currency and put it away for safekeeping. When the exchange rate plummets, they can then claim that money and exchange it – resulting in a profit. This profit results not only from the difference in the exchange rate, but also comes from storing money in a foreign bank account where the interest will be paid in the foreign currency.

The most popular reason for offshore banking, however, is the fact that certain other countries have lower tax rates which means that you will be allowed to keep more of your money. Because of this, some countries are known tax havens where thousands of people choose to keep their money and do transactions from in order to avoid the high taxes in their own country.

Whatever your reason for choosing offshore banking, you can be sure that a little but of looking will provide you with the perfect banking solution for you.
